1408
Release Date: 2007
Director: Mikael Håfström
Starring: John Cusack, Sam Jackson
Plot: An author who doesn’t completely believe in haunted places spends the night in a hotel room that is actually haunted.
Why it’s recommended: Unlike some recent attempts to turn a less-than-100-page story into an entertaining 2-hour movie, director Håfström actually does a great job. This movie doesn’t scare with jumpscares, but with my personal favorite type, psychological horror.
Interesting Fact: 1408 is the first Stephen King film adaptation with scenes shot in New York City to not include footage of the Twin Towers.
Best Part: [Mike Enslin (Cusack) attacks an unarmed refrigerator.]
