Poltergeist
Release Date: 1982
Director: Tobe Hooper
Starring: Craig T. Nelson, JoBeth Williams, Dominique Dunne, Oliver Robins, Heather O’Rourke
Plot: It’s a haunted house movie.
Why it’s recommended: This movie may be over 30 years old, but it still had the ability to keep me interested for its entire run-time. It’s considered a classic from the 1980’s era and for horror in general. If you keep in mind that you’re watching a movie from the early 1980’s, you’ll see that the special effects are really well done, and help keep you on the edge of your seat. You may even start to make some connections to other movies that were clearly inspired by this movie.
Interesting Fact: Both of the terrors that plague Robbie came from director Steven Spielberg’s own fears as a child: a fear of clowns and a tree outside his window.
Best Moment: A group of construction workers cat-call an under-aged girl.
